How Consistency is Your Secret Weapon in Business

When it comes to running a business, one of the things you always hear people say is, “You want to make sure that you’re being consistent.” However, very few then go on to explain exactly WHY being consistent in your business is so important.

I believe that there are two main reasons why being consistent in your business is the difference between those that succeed long-term and achieve the goals that they have, and the ones that never end up building a successful business . . . so let’s talk about them!

Consistency Builds Trust

When it comes to running a business, people want to do business with people and businesses that they trust. If the trust isn’t there, then customers and clients will go find someone else who they do trust to get the help they need. This is the first reason why being consistent is so important.

I think of consistency in business a lot like a relationship or a friendship. If a friend or significant other isn’t sure whether you’re going to show up consistently for them or not, how long is it before they move on or look for other people to fill that consistency gap? The same is true in business.

If you’re inconsistent with things like your social media, email marketing, or the value that you offer your community, they’re going to eventually wonder what’s going on . . . and after a while, they’ll start seeking out a business owner that’s consistently filling the needs that they have.

Now, let me make one thing clear about consistency: consistency doesn’t mean that you have to show up every single day, or that you have to be there 24-7 to answer all and any questions. Consistency does mean that you have a schedule and you stick to your word.

If you tell people you’re going to post on social media 3x a week and send out one email a week, then make sure you honor your word and stick to that. The main thing with consistency is to figure out what works for you and your schedule as a business owner.

Consistency Builds Expertise & Efficiency

Now that we talked about consistency from a client and customer standpoint, let’s talk about what consistency means to you and how it affects you as the business owner, because ultimately if you’re not consistent with yourself, you’ll always struggle to run a business.

When it comes to myself and the business owner, I think of consistency a lot like the gym or dieting. If you go to the gym one week, then skip a month, then go for a few days, then skip a week, you’re going to find it difficult to see the desired results that you’re looking for.

The same goes for your business and the goals that you’re trying to achieve.

If you show up consistently in your business one week, then not the next, you’re not building up your expertise and efficiency in a way that will allow you to scale and grow a massive business. Let’s be real: if you can’t be consistent when a few things are happening, how do you expect to be consistently running a massive business where there’s 10x the amount of things happening?

The time to build up your expertise, efficiency, and consistency isn’t when to start to experience the results you’re looking for, it’s before then . . . that allows you to put out into the world that you’re ready to receive those results because you’ve laid the foundation and put in the work necessary to be someone who should receive those results.

Conclusion

One of the best ways I’ve found that business owners create consistency in their business and their life is to have someone alongside them, guiding them and keeping them accountable to the things they know they need to be doing in order to achieve the things they want to achieve.
